How to Check if Your Case is MagSafe Compatible

How to Check if Your Case is MagSafe Compatible

Posted by New Case on 9th Jun 2025

1. Look for the MagSafe Symbol or Description

Check the packaging or product listing where you purchased the case.
Phrases like:

  • “MagSafe compatible”

  • “Supports magnetic charging”

  • “Built-in magnets for MagSafe”

...are clear indicators. If none of these are mentioned, your case may not be MagSafe-ready.

2. Feel for the Internal Magnet Ring

MagSafe-compatible cases have a ring of magnets built into the back of the case.
To check manually:

  • Hold a MagSafe charger to the back of the case (without your phone).

  • If the charger snaps firmly into place, it’s MagSafe compatible.

  • If it slides off or barely sticks, it's likely not compatible.

3. Check Wireless Charging Performance

Even non-MagSafe cases may allow wireless charging, but:

  • MagSafe delivers faster, more stable charging.

  • If your phone struggles to charge or disconnects easily, your case may lack the magnetic alignment MagSafe provides.

4. Check the Case Thickness

MagSafe relies on magnetic alignment—thick or rugged cases (like heavy-duty defenders) may block the magnetic connection even if they claim support.

  • Slim cases: More likely to be MagSafe compatible.

  • Rugged/multi-layered cases: May need to remove outer layers for proper charging.
